Description
The Tudor period in England’s history was rich with music, from the minstrels in the street to the nobility in the Court. Even King Henry VIII was an accomplished composer. Many of the songs of those days – madrigals, Ayres and ballads, as well as folk songs – were modal. This chime is tuned to the Aeolian Mode, one of the most popular for romantic music during the period. Woodstock Chimes are the original, musically-tuned, high-quality windchimes known worldwide for their superior sound. When listening to a Woodstock Chime, you hear a fine musical instrument played by the wind, perfectly hand-tuned using the ancient system of “just intonation” based on natural harmonics. This means the frequencies at which the different tubes vibrate are related to one another by simple whole-number ratios. Tones that are related in this way produce the most beautiful musical intervals. The sonic effect is exceptionally pure and soothing.
More than 30 years ago, the first Woodstock Chime was created by founder and owner Garry Kvistad from an aluminum lawn chair he found in a landfill. As a professional musician and instrument designer, he was fascinated by the Scales of Olympos, a 7th century pentatonic scale that can’t be played on a modern piano. Garry had the idea to cut and tune the lawn chair tubes to the exact frequency of the ancient scale. The resulting Chimes of Olympos was the first Woodstock Chime and is still one of our bestselling windchimes. Garry and his wife Diane founded Woodstock Percussion, Inc. in 1979 and it remains a family-owned business in New York’s Hudson Valley.

A Neighborhood Icon Jul 25, 2001 The Chime is so gentle and distinctive that it has actually charmed people up from the front drive to see what they were hearing----the sound is soft and soothing and can be experienced inside much of the house without being too sharp or harsh---I have ordered 4 more for house warming gifts.

The Tudor Rose Chimes from Woodstock Percussion are a great addition to any outdoor decor. As soon as you unpack them from the box, you'll be impressed with their appearance - the wood is a beautifully natural cherry and the chimes themselves are a deep reddish bronze. Each piece of the set feels very sturdy as well.
But it doesn't really show off until you hear it. The sound is astounding full, especially given its compact size. The eight different tones come together to make a peaceful stream of sound rather than the dissonant clang-clang-clang of lesser chimes. I had read about the meticulous tuning process in the product description but figured that a chime was a chime - these proved me wrong within a few minutes of hanging them.
I initially purchased these as a gift, but have since gotten a set for my own home. The Woodstock website has recommendations on combining different chimes for maximum harmony - at Amazon's low prices, I'm sure to purchase more sets soon.

By Janvier30 The Woodstock Tudor Rose chimes, Princess, is so wonderfully relaxing. I just received them a few days ago ... they are now hanging on one of our trees. They are adding so much magic to my garden. It's as if my colorful visual garden has now found its voice! My husband has even commented on the peacefulness and tranquility of the "new" garden, (with our wonderful chimes). We love them!
